Ciudad Jardín launches LOTURA: social robotics and local AI for cognitive stimulation

CIFP Ciudad Jardín LHII has started working on LOTURA – Smart Cognitive Assistant, an innovation project developed in collaboration with CPES San Luis Lanbide Heziketa and CPIFP Calasanz Lanbide Ikastegia.

The project explores the potential of social robotics and local artificial intelligence in cognitive stimulation workshops for people living with neurological conditions associated with cognitive impairment, particularly Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis.

The aim is to design and validate a robotic assistant that, always under professional supervision, can help facilitate activities, encourage participation and provide useful information about how sessions develop.

One of the project’s most innovative technological components is Reachy Mini Wireless, an open-source desktop humanoid robot designed to explore human-robot interaction. LOTURA will combine this technology with local large language models (LLMs), solutions such as Ollama, a modular architecture developed in Python, hardware/software integration and interaction logging and analysis.

The project will also address accessibility, bias reduction, the use of non-clinical data and local technology control, aiming to develop a human-centred, traceable and supervised solution.

At Ciudad Jardín, LOTURA connects directly with our commitment to emerging technologies and our Specialisation Courses in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data, Python Application Development and Cybersecurity in IT Environments.

The project will run throughout the 2026-2027 academic year and will include the transfer of knowledge and results to teachers, students, companies and other stakeholders within the Basque VET ecosystem.

Participating centres: CPES San Luis Lanbide Heziketa, CIFP Ciudad Jardín LHII and CPIFP Calasanz Lanbide Ikastegia.
