Language normalisation project
Service focused on language use and the communication framework across the school.
Every four years, schools participating in the Ulibarri Programme develop a Language Normalisation Project (LNP). To carry out the project, we need to know the state of Basque in our school. For this, we use the Branka and Mintzagrama diagnostic tools.
For the development of this four-year project, a Language Normalisation Plan is drawn up throughout all the courses, defining the projects and activities to achieve the objectives set out in the Project.
Students are not the only focus of the Language Normalisation Project. Other areas of the school are also taken into account: teaching staff, administrative staff, parents... The LNP is a complete plan that encompasses all of them.
When preparing the Plan, variables such as methodology, staff training, sociolinguistic context, the school's starting point, etc. must be taken into account.
Collaboration with local institutions is also necessary to achieve effectiveness. The school and its environment must support each other. We must consider joint work and complementarity with other institutions and agents involved in normalisation: town councils, Basque language associations...
